I Like You

Posted on Sep 1, 2014 in Favourite Readings

After 17 years as being a marriage celebrant I have learned that it is not only important to love the person you are marrying, they have to be your best friend and someone you like! I know, it seems obvious… anyway, here is my favourite reading that I read on top of the mountains above Queenstown,in the snow, one glorious winters day last month. I Like You – Sandol Stoddard Warburg “I like you and I know why. I like you because you are a good person to like. I like you because when I tell you something special, you know it’s special And you remember it a long, long time. You say, ‘Remember when you told me something special?’ And both of us remember When I think something is important you think it’s important too We have good ideas When I say something funny, you laugh I think I’m funny and you think I’m funny too …And I like you because when I am feeling sad You don’t always cheer me up right away Sometimes it is better to be sad… I like you because if I am mad at you Then you are mad at me too It’s awful when the other person isn’t… I like you...

Never underestimate the strength it takes for someone to be themselves

Posted on Aug 14, 2014 in Marriage / Wedding Ceremonies, Same Sex Ceremonies

“Never underestimate the strength it takes for someone to be themselves” this phrase made the base of a very, very special ceremony last week that I had the hour of officiating at. The incredible journey that Clinton and John had been on together was merely touched on, however myself and their closest friends and some family were for very aware of their story and are just so excited that they are married (well in good old New Zealand, anyway)!!! And then they sent me a thank you! Hey Phillipa. We’re back in Aus now but wanted to say thanks again for the ceremony. You were the first piece of the puzzle that was imperative we had before proceeding and could not be happier. Even our friends commented on just how sincere and invested you were on the day. It all still feels surreal to us but wanted to again say thanks Take care. Clinton &...

Even the title of this reading appeals to me “The Game” by BJ Falken

Posted on Aug 14, 2014 in Favourite Readings

The following reading was recited on Friday in the snow on the pontoon at Jacks Point, at Kysee and Craig’s wedding ceremony and although it wasn’t the first time I heard it, for some reason, the words hit home to me. This is a photo of the stunning view at Jacks Point, though it is not from Friday’s gorgeous wedding. “The Game” by BJ Falken. It appeared to outsiders that they were at odds. He would test her patience and try to charm his way out of it. She would try to impose her will through loosely crafted arguments based on creative feminine logic. He would put on magnificent displays of rhetoric and manipulation, because he liked it when she caught him trying to get away with something. She liked it too. Over time though, it became obvious that this was not a fight, or a contest. It was a game. Two sides, back and forth. Advance and defend. A game that was almost as much fun to watch, as it was to play. In this game, however, keeping score was never necessary. The minute one round was over, they’d start again, barely paying attention who had been victorious only seconds earlier. Even if they had kept score, it...

My heart has made it’s mind up …

Tom and Yvette planned an intimate ceremony here in Queenstown, from their home in Auckland, with less than 3 months to arrange it. Their ceremony was held on the Hilton Hotel’s wharf with Yvette’s sister and Fredrik Larrson their photographer as their witnesses, no one else in Auckland knew what was happening! Today they sent me this lovely message as well as this gorgeous photo taken by Fredrik Hi Phillipa, Tom and I would like to thank you so much for being part of our amazing wedding day. From your advice and support in the lead up to our ceremony to the way you made us feel completely ourselves and at ease on the day. You are incredibly talented at what you do and I think you have the dream job … the chance to be surrounded by love in the most beautiful place in the world! Our wedding day was perfect in every way, so much so that it still feels like a dream. We are so unbelievably happy to be Mr & Mrs Knight and we’d like to thank you for everything you have done for us. I’ve attached a photo we have received from Fredrik – … Wishing you a wonderful holiday in Europe, I’m green with...
