Outdoor location options for a Queenstown Wedding ceremony

Posted on Jun 13, 2014 in Frequently asked Questions

This is the most frequent question I am asked, which is very difficult to answer because it depends on so many things: the time of year, number of guests, lakefront or mountain top, etc etc Below is a list of the outdoor locations I have officiated at in this beautiful area I call home, most of them I have officiated at this year. They are in no particular order, although I have placed Millbrook Resort at the top because my first ceremony was there 17 years ago: Millbrook Resort Stoneridge Estate Cecil Peak Ledge (helicopter required) Trelawn Place Walter Peak Kinloch Lodge Paradise Queenstown Gardens Wakatipu Yacht Club The Remarkables (helicopter required) Heritage Hotel rooftop Lake Hayes Moonlight Country The Hilton Hotel Canyons Lodge Southerly Glenorchy Wharf Bendermeer Mount Soho Winery Skyline Matakauri Lodge Coronet Peak Jacks Point St Omer Park Thurlby Domain The Rydges Hotel rooftop Amisfield The One Mile Waitiri Creek Winery Peregrine Winery Remarkables Lodge Mercure Queenstown Resort Blanket Bay Luxury Lodge (only available if you are a guest) Nugget...

The loving are the daring

Australian couple, Mark and Scott chose Queenstown for their wedding ceremony not only because they had always wanted to marry in snow, mountains and lakes and Queenstown in particular, Jacks Point, had all the elements of their dream destination plus it was close enough for their family and friends to attend, however the main reason was BECAUSE THEY CAN!! They have been together for almost 12 years and their wedding ceremony on Sunday meant a great deal to them, including unconditional love, the commitment to each other through the good bad and the ugly… to formally unite and commit to each other showing our unconditional love. Today I received this lovely message from them and these fabulous photos were taken by Rich Bayley. Hi Phillipa, Well what an amazing day. We can’t thank you enough. It was everything we had ever wanted and then some. So thank you for being an amazing part of making our day so special. Cheers Scott and...

The Prophet – Kahlil Gibran

Posted on May 18, 2014 in Favourite Readings

It has been quite some time since I have heard the following read in a ceremony, however it is still one of my favourites, as I like they way it encourages independence in a very honest way. The beliefs and thoughts about love and marriage which motivate these two people are perhaps best expressed in some words of the prophet Kahlil Gibran. “ You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days. Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God. But let there be spaces in your togetherness. And let the winds of the heaven dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other’s cup but drink not from the same cup. Give one another bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each others keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain...

Love is a wonderful gift.

Autumn is my favourite time of the year to marry in the Queenstown area and I am not the only local who thinks this. Adam’s family has lived in this area for a very long time, going way back to the gold mining era and so it was no surprise to me when he and Narae decided to have their wedding at the end of April – when the trees are gold! Today I opened up my emails to find this lovely message from Adam: HI Phillipa, Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for a great ceremony on the 27th! 🙂 As you probably noticed, I was pretty nervous but you made me feel at ease by chatting to me when I was waiting for Narae to arrive. It was so nice to be able to rely on someone so experienced and lovely to make sure it all ran smoothly. We both wanted a meaningful ceremony and the candle lighting, the readings and the wine ceremony were all perfect. We had such an amazing day and we received so many comments from our guests about how much they enjoyed the ceremony. We went on to have a fantastic night up at Stoneridge with no issues or dramas...

Something old, something new

Thurlby Domain is where one of the first homesteads in the Queenstown area was located, it is now a beautiful ruin set in a park like setting among some historic trees – perfect for weddings all year round. It was a true privilege to be Shane and Alisa’s marriage celebrant just 4 days before Christmas and to meet their closest family and friends. Today I received this lovely message from them, as well as this beautiful photo which brought back some wonderful memories of their wonderful wedding day. Hi Phillipa It’s hard to believe that our wedding was just 4 months ago. Life has been non-stop since arriving back in Brunei and getting back into the routine of our life here. We are catching up on our emails and wanted to drop a line to say thank you so much for making our day so special. From the moment we were in first contact via email to the rehearsal and wedding day, you were so accommodating to our needs and helpful with advice. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful and went the way we had just envisaged! You were an absolute pleasure to work with and we will definitely be recommending you to others. Thanks again, Alisa and...
