Each ceremony is unique, it should reflect the couples relationship and what is important to them, as well as their love and friendship and humour and so many other things as well.
How can all this be achieved in about 20-30 minutes? I usually suggest 1 or 2 readings or poems be included in the ceremony which are read by a close friend or family member – the couple can choose them or the reader can be given the task of finding something that they believe will suit the couple. At yesterdays wedding both readings were read by family members and they had written them themselves – brought lots of tears and laughter into the ceremony! The Warming of the Rings is becoming popular as all the guests are involved and as the ceremony continues as the rings are being passed, it doesn’t use up valuable time. The Hands Blessing is a favourite of mine – could you imagine your relationship without your hands? Then there is the wine ceremony, the exchange of roses, the sand ceremony, the wine box ceremony, the release of monarch butterflies, the unity candle ceremony (only attempt this one for inside ceremonies, please)… the list goes on! And don’t forget, you can write your own vows, include the important stuff but you can also promise to make her breakfast in bed every Sunday if you wish!
